Why Greenfield Lilly “jobs” matter

Jobs at Eli Lilly's Greenfield Laboratories matter to Hancock County. Hancock County has even honored Lilly with tax abatements (http://www.savetheroad.com/component/option,com_docman/task,doc_details/gid,4/Itemid,86/) based on the number of new jobs produced at Greenfield Laboratories. We have followed the employment pronouncements at Greenfield Lilly now for some time. (http://www.savetheroad.com/content/view/15/67/) Despite many conflicting numbers over the years, in an October 27th Daily Reporter (http://www.greenfieldreporter.com) article, Lilly announced only 360 Elanco Animal Health employees and about the same number of Eli Lilly “local employees.” We find this astonishingly low number of Lilly employees at Greenfield labs to be inconsistent with the promises they have made to the County.

Lilly lays down the law

As to the the outcome of the case: We couldn't be more pleased – our wishes were delivered – our Roads remain. Obviously, it was a huge win for us. Though it appears from recent public comments, Lilly may have taken their loss as an opportunity (or perhaps confused signal) to continue their bullying of our community by now playing victim.

Eric North from the Daily Reporter on the recent decision by Judge Hughes. A Hamilton County Judge has ruled that an ordinance to close two Hancock County roads is illegal because of problems in the legal descriptions of the two roads to be vacated. - The Daily Reporter (http://www.greenfieldreporter.com/) (Greenfield, IN)

Janet Helms from the Daily Reporter notes some reactions from the community. While passionate about fighting Eli Lilly’s effort to close two county roads around its Westside Greenfield complex, those who fought to keep the thoroughfares open believed they never had a chance. - The Daily Reporter (http://www.greenfieldreporter.com) (Greenfield, IN)

Roads remain intact

In the case of Green Woods LLC v. Brian Kleiman, et al. Hamilton County Superior Court Judge William J. Hughes ordered the ordinance vacating the contested portions of Meridian and Davis (CR 100 S) Roads, VACATED . This victory for the Plaintiff, Green Woods LLC, is a major achievement for the local land owner and their grass-roots supporters. Judge Hughes' order (index.php?option=com_docman&task=doc_download&gid=2&Itemid=86) effectively prevents Eli Lilly Co. from taking ownership of the nearly four miles of road the Hancock County Commissioners had vacated at the bequest of Lilly.

Letter to the Editor

This was a letter to the Editor of the Daily Reporter from Rosemary Huffman originally published in their paper on June 24, 2005. It focuses on the status of the Roads in the Hancock County Comprehensive Plan. Ultimately, after intensive lobbying, the Roads did end up staying in the Comprehensive Plan map but the amendment to hand over the authority of the plan commission regarding all road vacation provisions, placing it solely in the discretion of the county commissioners was made part of the plan.- The Daily Reporter (http://www.greenfieldreporter.com/) (Greenfield, IN)

Lilly Greenfield jobs vanishing

In an unprecedented analysis of Lilly's employment reports spanning over 16 years of proclamations, we've learned that trends are hard to break. Nearly a year later, with the most recent reports, we look once again at the touted employment figures for Lilly's Greenfield Laboratories. You can do the math - it's not fuzzy logic...
